If you’ve read some of my previous blog posts on self-care, you may have noticed that I love to include books in my self-care routine. Reading helps me to tap into my imagination and enables me to explore a completely new world without even leaving my room. That’s pretty darn good when a book does that if you ask me! But it’s also really nice to relax just before bed, give myself a break from technology and social media, and read a good book.
You may have noticed that the title of this post is a little different to my usual book review posts. That’s because I want to share with you what books I have recently been cosying up to, so that you can cosy up with a book too and maybe add them in to your self-care routine. Reading should never feel like a chore, to me books are my happy place. They are somewhere I can take my mind to and go on an adventure and fall in love with the people I am reading about. I only share books that I truly love and adore by authors who I think are absolutely amazing!
So get ready to go and grab your warmest blanket and
Today we are cosying up to The Silver Queen by Josie Jaffrey. After reading Josie’s first book in the Sovereign series, The Gilded King, Josie very quickly became one of my very favourite authors. You can read my review of The Gilded King here. I was very kindly sent this copy of The Silver Queen to read and share with you.
“I love Josie’s take on Vampires, and the world she has created within the story, an apocalyptic-
esqueworld where Vampires, humans and monsters live. A compelling, thrilling and addictive story.” Clem Loves
There are not enough words to describe how amazing, brilliant and fantastic The Silver Queen is. This novel is a pure joy to read, and one that kept me mesmerized and gripped from the very first page. A truly welcoming novel for my absolute love for book 1 of the Sovereign series, The Gilded King. I can honestly say that this magnificent book, including book 1 in the series, I truly connected with each and every one of the main characters and imagined I was there with them in their world. A book that can do this, is a treasure to cherish.
The story which is written in and consists of two adventures from two different characters, creates a face-paced, action-filled journey that the reader can embark on and see the world that is front of them from two very different angles. From destruction and loss to loyal friendship and love.
Each and every single word written by Josey is pure brilliance which has created this absolute masterpiece of a series. My guilty pleasure of Vampire-esque novels, satisfied. The book follows the journeys of Julia, a human raised within the Blue, who is controlled by the Nobles, and Cam, who is centuries old, will not stop until he finds his friend and Queen no matter what dangers he may face along the way.
The story carries on from book 1. After the aftermath of the tragic events that surfaced, Julia and Claudia are left surrounded by a devastating mess. But the two best friends, quickly have to part ways as Julia must help Claudia. But just as Julia is surrounded by Nobles, fighting amongst one another to control the last remaining uncontaminated humans, they are frozen in time, as a man starts to walk towards her.
“The sun fell on Julia’s face again. Now she could see what had so affected the Nobles: a man, topless, bloodied up to the elbows with gore that dripped onto the stones. His face was fierce but familiar, with startling blue eyes and features so fine that they might have been carved from stone and crowned with gilded curls.” Josie Jafrey – The Silver Queen.
Julia finds herself with a new master, a master who wants hers blood, trapped in the Blue, unaware of where Lucas is and away from her best friend Claudia. Julia knows that her only option is to risk everything and escape, else the Blue will be her end. But Julia also knows that if she does go into the Red she will never be able to return.
Cam, who has gone to find and rescue Emmy, his Queen, has gathered a group of comrades, including Felix, the man who he has formed a special bond and connection with, to help him on his mission in to the contaminated in the Red. A place where the ‘monsters’ and the unknown are waiting. As the road is dangerous he will need the strength and trust of his comrades, to be successful in rescuing Emmy and to face the dangers on the way. But just as they are getting closer, it seems that not everyone can be trusted, even the one person who he is the closest to, and what was once thought of a strong assurance amongst the Invicti, starts to unravel.
Julia is a strong independent woman, and her story is one I enjoy and admire tremendously, and watching Julia grow into the powerful young woman she is. Following Julia from book 1, she is a character in this series that I am always rooting for. And finally Julia, although she faces an uncertain journey ahead of her, achieves the one thing that was always on her mind.
And that’s all I’m going to say about this marvellous book. It’s a must-read for all fans of fantasy and YA. Especially if like me, you are looking for that next novel to satisfy your guilty pleasure of vampire-esque stories. that include fast-paced action, love, adventure into the unknown and new friendships.
